The City of Cedar Vale is classified as a city of the third class, which means it is incorporated and meets certain requirements. Kansas' cities are are divided into three classes based on population. A city of the third class is a city with a population of 10,000 or fewer.
We have a mayor and a 5 member city council, which forms the governing body. This is one of the most common forms of local government in the United States. The current mayor is Oscar Mattocks; council members are Faye Melton-President, Lorri Pontious, David Ferguson, Joel M Haden, and Jeffery Henderson. Our city clerk is Casey Mills.
City council meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at
7 o'clock PM at City Hall. All council meetings are open to the public.

The City of Cedar Vale is accepting applications/resumes for a full-time police chief. The job includes patrol and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws as well as city ordinances. Candidate must be able to work in a small-town environment. Excellent rural community communication skills. Must be available any shift (nights, weekends, and holidays). Must be computer proficient. Highly principled ethics and moral character. A true desire to serve all members of society. At least one year of similar or related experience required. Pay is based on qualifications. A MAINTENANCE/UTILITY WORKER WANTED
City of Cedar Vale has an opening in the maintenance department. Qualified candidate will be able to lift, bend, pull, stand for long periods of time, work in extreme weather conditions, self-motivated and water/sewer operators will be strongly considered. Must possess a valid Kansas driver's license, be able to pass drug screening and physical, live in the 758 prefix, be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
